Nagoya-born electronic musician Shokuhin Matsuri a.k.a. foodman will hold his first solo concert in over 10 years, titled “Toward the Light,” on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Shibuya WWW X. Ahead of this concert, his latest album, “HIKARIGASASHIKOMU,” will be released on July 24 via the renowned UK label “Hyperdub.” The title, “HIKARIGASASHIKOMU” (meaning “light streaming in”), is said to convey a sense of hope amidst difficult circumstances. This work, which opens up new creative possibilities for the artist himself, is both introspective and extremely dynamic, expressing the clarity and light discovered after a period of self-exploration. You might expect a solo concert to promote the new album, but this time, things seem a bit different. The concert title is “Toward the Light”—it’s almost too dazzling. Perhaps light isn’t something someone else gives you, but rather something you suddenly discover within yourself in the darkness. Shokuhin Matsuri’s music has always been like that. It doesn’t make loud assertions or offer answers. Yet, as you dance, you find that your vision has cleared a little without you even realizing it. Before you know it, you’re standing on your own two feet. His music has created moments like that time and time again. There must be many people who have been saved countless times by his music and personality at various parties. It was a celebration, and at the same time, it felt somewhat like a prayer. For us, Shokuhin Matsuri has always been a source of light—even though he never intended it to be. And for this performance, “Companions of Light” are credited. Although details haven’t been revealed yet, perhaps a single light called upon others so it could reach places it couldn’t reach alone. Light cannot remain light on its own. It only becomes light when it reaches someone. We sincerely hope that as many people as possible will witness this light.
