Los Angeles nightlife spans a massive, sprawling city — and the scene reflects that diversity. From Hollywood megaclubs and celebrity hotspots to DTLA warehouse raves and Silver Lake's underground, LA has it all. The challenge is the distances and 2 AM last call. Nightlife Today tracks events across every neighborhood so you can plan smarter.
Hollywood is the mainstream heartland — Exchange LA, Academy LA, and the Avalon draw massive EDM crowds and touring acts. West Hollywood (WeHo) is the city's LGBTQ+ hub: The Abbey, Revolver, and countless bars pack out Thursday through Sunday. Downtown LA (DTLA) is where the underground lives — Sound Nightclub, the Catch One, and warehouse pop-ups host the city's techno, house, and experimental music scenes. Silver Lake and Echo Park offer a more indie, low-key alternative.
LA's 2 AM state-mandated last call is the defining constraint of the scene — almost everything ends earlier than Tokyo or Miami. Rideshare is non-negotiable; driving and parking are a nightmare, and designated drivers are impractical. Dress codes vary: Hollywood clubs are fashion-forward, DTLA underground is anything goes. Cover ranges from free to $40+ depending on the DJ and venue tier. Many major events sell out online — check listings here before showing up.
Friday and Saturday are peak. Wednesday and Thursday nights are where local regulars come out — smaller crowds, better music, often the better vibe. Sunday afterparties happen but are rarer than Miami. The best time to visit is year-round (weather never stops play) — major festivals like HARD Summer and EDC LA bring headliners to the LA area in summer.
