Drive Timeは、Essendon Airportの創設メンバーとして知られるDavid ChesworthとベーシストBill McDonaldによるユニットで、その音楽はミニマルな電子音楽とポストパンク、そしてどこか抽象的なポップのあいだを静かに行き来します。 もともとは1984年、冬の夜に行われたラジオでのライブ演奏から生まれたプロジェクトで、教会空間に響くオルガンとドラムマシンの音、そして外の街から届けられる交通情報や天気予報が交錯する、少し不思議な状況の中で記録された音楽です。 40年の時間を経て、その音楽が現在に呼び戻され、京都で鳴らされます。 共演には、名古屋からmarucoporoporoを迎えます。彼女の音楽は、アンビエントとフォークのあいだをたゆたいながら、有機的な音のレイヤーとミニマルな構造の中で連続的に変化していきます。その繊細なサウンドは、Drive Timeの音楽とも静かに呼応するはずです。 彼女は今回が京都では初めての公演となります。 そしてDJにはhandsaw press Kyoto/suiro主宰の小田晶房を迎えます。出演2組の流れを踏まえつつ、この夜の文脈をゆるやかに接続してくれると思います。 この日は大きな起伏を作るというよりも、音の流れや質感をじっくり味わうような夜になるはずです。 開場時間を開演の1時間前に設定しました。少し早めに来て、お酒や食事とともにゆっくり過ごしてもらえたら嬉しいです。 Drive Time will be touring Japan from Melbourne. Drive Time is a project by David Chesworth—known as a founding member of Essendon Airport—and bassist Bill McDonald. Their music moves quietly between minimal electronic composition, post-punk, and a kind of abstract pop. The project originally emerged from a live radio performance on a winter night in 1984. It was recorded in a slightly unusual setting where the sound of an organ resonating through a church space intertwined with drum machine rhythms, alongside live traffic and weather reports from the city outside. Four decades later, this music has been brought back into the present, and will now be performed in Kyoto. Joining them is marucoporoporo from Nagoya. Her music drifts between ambient and folk, unfolding through organic layers of sound and minimal structures that evolve continuously over time. Her delicate sound will resonate quietly with that of Drive Time. This will also mark her first performance in Kyoto. For the DJ, we welcome Akinobu Oda (handsaw press Kyoto / suiro). Drawing from the flow created by the two live acts, he will gently connect the context of the evening. Rather than creating dramatic peaks, this night will focus on carefully experiencing the flow and texture of sound. Doors will open one hour before the performance begins. We encourage you to arrive early and enjoy drinks and food at your own pace.
