Luminous Orange is a Tokyo-based band that has been active since the '90s. Absorbing the essence of US/UK indie and shoegaze, they have established a one-of-a-kind sound that combines transparency and noise. They have transcended the boundaries of Japanese indie rock, releasing on international labels and touring the US. Their live performances, which combine delicacy with explosive power, continue to evolve. And then there's "toddle." Conceived by Hisako Tabuchi after the disbandment of NUMBER GIRL, even before she joined bloodthirsty butchers, the band, centered around Ai Kobayashi (ex. swarm's arm) and Noriyoshi Ezaki (SiNE, ex. RUMTAG), has garnered high praise both at home and abroad for their band ensemble that effortlessly traverses the boundaries of post-punk and alternative, freely shifting between sharpness and pop. Their stoic and solid, yet euphoric, sound is one of a kind. Two forces that played an important role in the context of Japanese indie music from the '90s to the '00s now intersect in Kyoto in 2026.
