Shutter Rhythms goes off screen with RASA for the first time with a club night that’s purely rooted in losing one’s self to the sound. A collaborative lineup stitched together which sees Seoul’s Mogwaa and UK’s Ross From Friends headlining over at Floor, we’ll let the music speak the loudest under RASA’s lights. Seoul-based Mogwaa first broke out in 2017 with the release of Déjà Vu on Clique Records. Since then, he’s been a steady presence in the global electronic music scene, releasing work through renowned labels such as Public Possession, Bless You, Klasse Wrecks, and More Rice. His genre-spanning output— from boogie and reggae to house and drum & bass—showcases a production style rooted in analog hardware and constant sonic exploration that leaves us all amazed. Closing the night, Ross From Friends, also known as British producer Felix Clary Weatherall, is an esteemed electronic artist and the owner of the Scarlet Tiger label. His approach focuses on continuing to build his craftsmanship and enabling emotive storytelling through his releases. Since his breakout success on Distant Hawaii in 2016, he has forged a notable career for himself, encompassing two albums released via the revered label Brainfeeder. With his new moniker Bubble Love & a club focussed identity behind it, there’s an attempt to separate the sound of “Ross From Friends” from the frenetic dancefloor tracks he simply enjoys making. This epiphany and experimentation birthed not only a fresh way to approach writing music, but the beginnings of a character which he plans to develop into his artistic project. In the early hours over at Floor, Vix and Suffyan set the tone by stretching the dancefloor wide before Mogwaa takes over with a live set that oozes controlled spontaneity. From there, Ross from Friends brings the night home for us. Local hero and co-founder of Sivilian Affairs Sivanesh anchors the night over in Hall, with support from two distinct selectors. To start us off, an artist who emphasises storytelling in her music in the form of Yuju . Deep into the night, the ever so diverse Kins with his range of selections that dig deep from various influences. Here, the night leans into a more minimal feel; giving dancers space to breathe, lock into the groove and gradually push things up a notch according to three selectors’ pacing. A slower burn for sure, but tactfully guided by each of the selectors’ take on tension and release. Stay as long as the rhythm lets you on the 28th of March as we bring you a night that’s about freedom on the dancefloor.
