Daniel Bell is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Minimal House and a defining figure in electronic dance music. Emerging from the Toronto and Detroit scenes in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Bell helped shape a stripped-down, hypnotic sound through projects such as Cybersonik and his DBX alias. After relocating to Detroit in 1990, he founded the influential label Accelerate, whose minimal approach would leave a lasting impact on techno and house music worldwide. His 1994 release “Losing Control” remains one of the era’s most iconic underground records. Beyond production, Bell became known for his deeply immersive DJ sets — often lasting 7, 8, or even 13 hours — developed through years spent within Berlin’s legendary 24-hour club culture. In 2000, his mix CD “The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell” was later named Resident Advisor’s 2nd Best Mix CD of the 2000s. From 2008–2018, Bell toured globally with his acclaimed DBX live show, performing with vintage synthesizers and drum machines in an era dominated by laptop performances. Resident Advisor awarded DBX Live “Best Live Act of 2008,” calling him “techno’s greatest reducer.” Today, Daniel Bell continues to move between Detroit and Europe while expanding his Beyond series — open-to-close events focused on all-night journeys across some of the world’s most immersive sound systems.
