Late Nites Book Club returns after a long hiatus with a hybrid event featuring discussion and music, sparked in large part by the publication of “Club Commons: Moving Bodies to Grow Movements in Queer Nightlife and Beyond” by Anjali Prashar-Savoie. The first portion of the night will include a discussion of “Club Commons,” a timely missive that is part cultural history and part manifesto. Throughout the book author Anjali Prashar-Savoie invites us to consider the implications of the neoliberal turn in nightlife, a result of the industry becoming more formalized over the years, alongside the collectivist impulses past present and future and how these practices protect what’s at stake and help us imagine better ways of doing things together both on and off the dance floor. There will be music before, during and after the discussion. L&D are two of the minds behind rave cafe, a project that is for the community and by the community as it manifests in various forms: parties, radio, panel discussions, workshops, zines, & more. Sampling archival Yiddish music through various modes and genres, Chaia will be joined by harpist Eli Shane for a live collaborative performance. DJ Voices is the instigator of Late Nites Book Club. 7pm doors / L&D 7:30 - 9pm book club 9pm - 9:45pm Eli Shane & Chaia Present: STRUMS 9:45 - 12am DJ Voices Book club is no cover / $10 tickets for LNBC discussion attendees wanting to stay after 9pm for music / $20 for 9pm onward entry
