May 1st at Refuge. We’re bringing together an assembly of artists with a combined history of over 150 years in this music. It is pretty rare to have this much collective experience on one lineup in New York City. This is a Sonic Groove event focused on a deeper, more psychedelic energy than the norm. It won’t be a linear night of techno where everyone sounds the same. Instead, Orlando Voorn, Damon Wild, Adam X, and Reade Truth each bring a unique style, moving through a diverse range of sounds from start to finish. We’re locking the REX system into a direct line from the source to the future. Orlando Voorn is a true architect. He’s the one who bridged the Detroit and Amsterdam connection early on, and it’s a rare moment to finally have him playing in New York City. While he’s known for defining techno anthems like Fix - “Flash” and The Nighttripper - “Tone Exploitation,” those are just two highlights from an incredibly deep and prolific catalog. Orlando’s insane discography spans across techno, house, and beyond, with countless hits and underground classics that have shaped electronic music for decades. He has never stopped producing and continues to push a soulful edge in his ongoing work. Damon Wild is a primary architect of what is now called hypnotic techno and the force behind the Synewave label. A defining influence since the early 90s, Damon has an intensive discography of incredible techno and acid records that were staples in the boxes of every serious DJ and artist in the scene. Whether through his own productions or the tracks on his label, he helped set the blueprint for the genre's deeper, mental evolution. Returning to New York City for his first set in over 25 years, Damon brings a level of precision and sonic depth that remains a gold standard. Adam X, alongside his brother Frankie Bones, started the techno scene here in New York City. From throwing the first raves to running Sonic Groove, the first all-techno record shop in New York City and the U.S., the techno history in NYC starts here. While the shop has been closed for 22 years now, the Sonic Groove label is stronger than ever. Adam’s current production and sound have evolved into deep, psychedelic, and trippy territory. Moving away from his industrial roots, his recent work focuses on heavy, acidic layers and mental structures that push the New York lineage into new spaces. Reade Truth has been a cornerstone of the Sonic Groove crew since surfacing in the early 90s underground. He’s remained an uncompromising figure in the city, releasing on seminal labels for years before starting Path Records, a cult imprint with a highly sought-after catalog. Reade’s style is a deep, mental fusion of house and techno that is entirely his own. Refuge Hi-Def Dance Club is a 500-cap underground nightclub in East Williamsburg built around sound, energy, and atmosphere. At its core is REX, a custom 4-point system designed by co-founder Craig “Shorty” Bernabeu, with four 10-foot stacks surrounding the dance floor for a powerful, immersive experience. Each night is curated to push that system to its full potential — a true Musical Arts Performance in every sense. 21+ only. All sales are final.
