As grief compounds around us, internally and externally, where are the spaces and the places where we release? Where do we rebuild and become whole again, in our liberation pursuits, together? DJ Lita of Sonic Liberation Devices and Rena Anakwe of A Space for Sound & SENSORHEUM will form a sonic exchange, weaving together a space for communal grief, reflection and release through their selections for this session. Lita and Rena will consider how a practice of healing must also walk alongside a practice of resistance, through sound Rena Anakwe is a Nigerian-Canadian-American interdisciplinary artist, performer, poet and healer using sound, visuals, and scent to explore where and how traditional healing practices, spirituality, and performance can connect and fracture. Her deeper inquiry is how reconnecting to nature can help us to understand and mend these fractures, not only for ourselves but in relation to one another. Rena is currently a member of New Inc’s Year 12, 2025-2026 cohort in the Extended Realities Track. Most recently, she was a 2025 Henry Hewes Design Awardee in Sound Design, and has been a resident/fellow/commissioned artist at: NYSCA/NYFA, The Kitchen, Governors Island Arts, Lincoln Center, Serpentine, MacDowell, BAM, Radiophrenia, Art Matters, Abrons Art Center and ISSUE PROJECT ROOM.
