Joining us at this edition of dream/self for his US debut is VC-118A (Samuel van Dijk). To say we are excited to have the Helsinki-based producer and DJ play for us would be an understatement. Come see him take peak time in an intimate setting before he heads to Dripping to play an an extended ambient set under his moniker Multicast Dynamics. Building the room before VC-118A is one of our favorites, NYC-based Sevyn 0000. We were blown away by her set at Wire Festival and knew we had to have her play this one. On closing duties we have dream/self resident threehz alongside mayilovesummer (Hybrid Identity) for a B2B session. -- Samuel van Dijk is fascinated by contrasts. He explores the tension that comes from carefully constructed atmospheres and rough riding rhythms, like gentle waves crashing up against angular rock faces or jagged drum patterns softened by blooming pads. He’s just as focussed on musical dynamics; with expansive chords but intimate effects, and how sounds move about in the club as well as in your head. He makes soundscapes rather than tracks, where euphoric moods and thunderous basslines can coexist, and where minute little details capture your mind’s eye while punchy drum work makes an immediate physical impact. He explores the rough and the smooth, the loud and the quiet, the cerebral and the visceral in aquatic and naturalistic worlds where electro, techno, dub and ambient are blurred into one. This means that as both a producer and comprehensive live act, the Dutchman can take you from the furthest reaches of outer space to the depths of an oceanic abyss via crackling and frozen tundras. He does so under three aliases—VC-118A, Mohlao, Multicast Dynamics, but all are interconnected and related, with a modular approach to making and performing music meaning that a pumping breakbeat live-set can easily be transformed into an abstract sonic landscape by reducing and modifying elements, playing with textures and reworking structures. * Sevyn 0000 is a DJ and producer based in NYC. Over the past years she has brought her hard-hitting, eclectic techno sets to iconic club spaces such as Basement, Elsewhere, TUNNEL, Tresor, Herrensauna, ZERO Chill and FOLD, festivals including WIRE, Fourth World and Ladyland and also opened for the likes of Addison Rae and Juliana Huxtable — with further debut appearances in Rome, London, Paris, Barcelona, Detroit, and Chicago. * Ananda May AKA mayilovesummer—a New York-based DJ, event producer, and co-founding member of Hybrid Identity @hybrididentity - a podcast and event series highlighting experimental sides of techno and ambient, and promoting gender balance in the electronic music industry. As a musician, they spin a mix of dark, hypnotic, broken beat techno, experimental, and ambient — including references to their roots, by mixing in sounds inspired by Vaishnavism and Eastern sonic patterns. As a vibe curator and culture creator, they aim to establish diverse and inclusive spaces that allow for shared cathartic experiences, while centering and celebrating queer, trans, and female bodies. * NYC-based selector threehz [three-hertz] explores the emotive sides of techno, experimental, and ambient music for every performance, taking inspiration from sludgy dark psychedelia to pulsing warpdrive drum tracks.
