Techno pioneer, plastic man, sake sage—Richie Hawtin is one of the few artists who bridges the gap between the dance floor and the dining table with equal precision. Born in the UK and raised in Windsor, Ontario, he became a defining force in minimal techno under his Plastikman alias, stripping electronic music down to its raw, hypnotic core. His relentless drive to push club culture forward led him to co-found the PLAYdifferently brand and develop the MODEL 1 mixer, changing how DJs interact with sound. But Hawtin’s curiosity doesn’t stop at the booth. He’s a certified Sake Samurai and holds WSET Level 3 and Sake Professional certifications—a passion that evolved into ENTER.SAKE, his own sake label. Through his Berlin-based platform OSC, he continues to explore the intersection of music, technology, and culture. Whether he’s commanding a club with a stripped-back set or pouring a perfectly chilled junmai, Hawtin operates with the same philosophy: less is more, but every detail matters.
