Spring has sprung and here we are in April. Corduroy Garden's Springtime program continues with the next installment of Substrate. Going on a very short field trip outside Psstudio's loft and venturing down the alley to Nothing Usual. A small record store and clothing shop located in a unique artist loft. NotUs has been a pillar in Los Angeles underground, from all the way down in Santa Ana, the store has been a hub for the culture. They began by showcases artists and DIY sound systems in store during the weird times post-ish Covid. The clothing resembles a type of Jersey for those of us that enjoy techno grooves, renegades, and DIY culture, when out n about we can spot those who care about the same things. Pleased to be bringing Substrate to NotUs and thanks for hosting. Enjoy sounds from the following artists. Anastasia, VSCRL co-founder and curator with a knack for putting together some of the best community forward techno events in LA. A true wizard behind the decks blending trippy techno polyrhythms, classic tones and deep textures. Thrilled to have Anastasia performing this next substrate as her sound fits perfectly into what the series is based around. Psidearm, The 2nd link in the chain when it comes to organizing the Los Angeles Party series "Shelter" and founder of the new mix series Boxlab. Pat has had the opportunity to showcase his selections at a few Shelter events, from his mix series and his deep background as a DJ we know he's got range. Curiosity spikes as we get the chance to hear a different side of Psidearm. R Levántate, Co-founder of Shelter and avid listener and dancer, Rob is a young dedicated artist in our scene. Someone who will put a smile on your face if you're bouncing together on the dance floor, and who will give you the stank face when he's behind the decks. When it comes to good techno, Rob knows whats up, he's been behind the scenes helping at Shelter since its inception, a party that has brought to LA some of the best techno artists world wide. It's always a treat to have Rob helping out with events, this time we get the treat of listening to his deeper side. Substrate... A Thursday night deep listening series that aims to bring up questions like: is this ambient? is this techno? is this IDM? What am I? Substrate is about hypnotic grooves and breaks that sit on subdued emotions, subterranean vibes and earthy tones. Feel inspired by bleeps, bloops, stabs and pads that push the mind into introspective spaces. Substrate is also a collaborative series working with local organizers and deep techno minded artists to showcase talented performers in this field.
