Photosynthesis, an event series part of Corduroy Garden's Springtime Program, featuring live electronica, ambient, experimental and indie artists. Enjoy sounds from the following duo's and Dublab Resident DJ Thoma is the duo of producers Tristan de Liège and Benjamin Hill. Originally from Oklahoma, their project was borne out of a mutual love for early 2000s electronica and downtempo music. Their work is a continually evolving dialogue between synths, samplers, and extensive recording. Since 2015 they’ve released 6 albums, with an increasing focus on world rhythms and percussive exploration. In their most recent work they’ve collaborated with James Waterman in both a live context and in the studio. Tristan and Ben will often present various loops or short sketches that James will play over, employing his extensive experience in percussion, improvisation and composition across instruments, from vibraphone and marimba to djembe, bongo, shakers and many others. Hustlekat (Stephanie Yu) and Ynes Mon (Collin Davis) are Los Angeles based artists whose collaborative work unfolds at the intersection of acoustic precision and studio-driven experimentation. Drawing from Yu’s background as a Juilliard-trained violinist with deep roots in orchestral and contemporary performance, and Davis’s practice as a Grammy Award winning producer and sound artist, their music centers on texture, space, and subtle transformation. Together, they approach composition as an evolving process blending bowed strings, electronics, and spatial awareness into immersive environments that emphasize restraint, listening, and continuous motion. Will-O-Wisp is the duo project of LA-based drummer and producer Tim Voet and NYC-based saxophonist Gabe Heinemann. Stemming from their days at Oberlin, where they both graduated with degrees in Jazz studies, Heinemann and Voet share a history of collaboration and experimentation. Originally starting as a call for Heinemann to record saxophone on one of Voet’s songs, the project quickly grew into a 6-song EP featuring samples, electronics, improvisation, and open-form composition. Built around themes of memory and the unreliable nature of nostalgia and history, the duo aim to break into LA and New York’s vibrant improvisation and ambient music scenes while showcasing their unique musical approach. Tying the music together on the 1's and 2's we have local dublab resident Jenn Zelmer. Jenn plays monthly on dublab founding a show called, Thread the Needle, an eclectic, thematic exploration that delves into sounds connected by a shared thread. Jenn and her husband Jacob also run a garden together called the 20th street garden, where they host events focused on cooking with seasonal produce often times straight from their garden.
