This event has ended — See what's coming up next
On the 11th April we are mobilising the Innervisions community to raise funds for BHO, a non-profit organisation working to support underserved schools and provide emergency relief to people across Sudan. Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict has killed an estimated 150,000 people and displaced nearly 13 million, leaving more than 21 million facing severe hunger and over 10 million children out of school. Despite the scale of the crisis, Sudan has received comparatively little international media attention which undoubtedly contributes to a lack of public pressure on governments to respond. When mainstream western media fails us in this way, the responsibilty to inform, aid and educate is on us. This event will bring together Sudanese music, food, and culture to show solidarity with the people of Sudan during this incredibly difficult time. Saunas will be open all day, and massages available to book upon arrival. There will also be a couple of sound healing sessions in the afternoon. Rest and taking care of one another is an important part of showing up sustainably for the causes we care about. Ahmed Saad (Organic Hub) will be serving Sudanese food (vegan and meat options) and Sudanese Chai throughout! PROGRAMME: The afternoon is family-friendly, with children's activities on offer throughout: Join Afia for Sudanese folktale storytelling, or visit the Art & Crafts table upstairs, where you can create work inspired by Sudanese folktales. In the evening, we welcome Jumana Eltgani to the stage, performing traditional Sudanese classics from across the country, followed by a lineup of (all women!) sudanese DJs: Tabidee is a British-Sudanese Civil Engineer, founder of design studio Space Black and an international DJ. Her sonic practice pays homage to Black genres' contribution to electronic music, with her sets an ode to Afro-Arab electronic sounds. Basma's musical selection is inspired by the sonic landscapes of Sudan, the Sahel, the Horn, and beyond. She is the host of Khartoum Arrivals on NTS Radio and the co-host of radio show and record label Hear, Sense and Feel. Saroor is a Sudanese-British DJ who started out as a classically trained cellist before evolving into a multi-genre enthusiast and established DJ. Having played at renowned underground parties and clubs such as Unfold, Riposte, Colour Factory and Corsica Studios, she'll be playing a SWANA-infused set for this fundraiser. Gudanese is an east London-born and bred DJ, Felt Sound System resident and half of the No Bass No Case duo. Expect to shake a leg to everything from Sudanese disco to jump-up soca from the small islands. All tickets start at £5, with the aim of keeping the event as accessible as possible. Additional donations on the day are encouraged, and will go directly towards BHO's work in Sudan. We hope to see you there.
